Water - Technician, Distribution
(Salary Range $18.41 / hour - $29.44 / hour)
The purpose of this classification is to perform semi-skilled labor to maintain and repair water distribution components for the Water Division of the Department of Public Utilities (DPU).
Essential Functions:
- Maintains and repairs water distribution components, such as water mains, fire hydrants, valves and blow-offs,
- Follows established safety procedures,
- Inspects and prepares equipment for safe and proper operation prior to beginning work for the day,
- Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures,
- Operates a personal computer and other electronic devices,
- Utilizes maintenance, work order, or department-specific software,
- Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies;
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required, with some vocational or technical training in water system operations preferred; supplemented by one year of experience in general maintenance, repair and installation of water system components; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Must reside within a radius of Orangeburg, SC that allows for a 30-minute maximum response to call outs and emergencies.
Specific License or Certification Required:
- Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) including appropriate endorsement(s) within 6 months of hire into position.
- Must obtain a D Level Water Distribution Operator license within 18 months and a C Level license within 36 months.
- Must possess and maintain ACM Pipe Repair certifications.
