Description
GIS Administrator – Administrative Division
(Pay: $30.45 - $48.72 / hour)
The purpose of this classification is to administer Geographic Information System (GIS) and related databases.
Essential Functions:
- Creates, maintains, and updates GIS database.
- Provides short, middle and long-range planning.
- Manages GIS servers and software.
- Creates and designs custom GIS applications.
- Provides technical support for custom applications and packaged software products.
- Organizes geospatial data.
- Evaluates performance and effectiveness of current GIS services and systems.
- Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures.
- Operates a personal computer and other electronic devices.
- Communicates with DPU Division Directors, supervisor, other employees, clients, third party service contractors, laborers, the public, and other individuals as needed.
- May be required to work after normal business hours, weekends, holidays, Standby Duty or be called out as needed 24 hours/day 7 days/week.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Information Engineering, cartography, planning, engineering or a related field required; supplemented by three years of experience in administering, creating and maintaining GIS databases, servers and applications; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Must reside within a radius of Orangeburg, SC that allows for a 30-minute maximum response.
- Must possess valid South Carolina Driver’s License.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Geographic Information Systems Professional Certification (GISP) or equivalent experience.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:
- Must have GIS training with strong knowledge of SQL databases.
- Must have considerable experience with ESRI software and a fundamental understanding of object-oriented programming.
