Description

Utilities Locator – Administrative Division
(Pay: $18.41 - $29.44 / hour)

The purpose of this position is to locate underground utility line for the Department of Public Utilities.
 

Essential Functions

  • Receives and responds to requests for utility line locates;
  • Identifies utilities using GIS software, locating equipment, probing and/or spot digging;
  • Ensures routine maintenance is performed on assigned truck and equipment;
  • Adheres to established safety procedures;
  • Operates a personal computer and other electronic devices;
  • Utilizes maintenance, work order, or department-specific software;
  • Operates and utilizes a variety of standard and specialized tools and equipment in performing duties;
  • Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations through SC811 positive response, within designated timeframes and per established procedures: ;
  • Communicates with supervisor, other employees, contractors, customers, the public, and other individuals as needed;
  • May be required to work after normal business hours, weekends, holidays, Standby Duty or be called out as needed 24 hours/day 7 days/week to maintain service to customers in the event of a natural disaster, emergencies, or any other disruption of service.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by two years of experience in underground utility locating; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must reside within a radius of Orangeburg, SC that allows for a 30-minute maximum response to call outs and emergencies.

 

Specific License or Certification Required

  • Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license.

 

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities

  • Requires extensive knowledge of the area and proficiency in the use of personal computers and/or tablets to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, database, e-mail, or other software.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all City or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
