Description

SUPERINTENDENT, CONSTRUCTION & MAINTENANCE - ELECTRIC DIVISION

Under limited supervision, responsible for the design and administration of division projects in accordance with accepted professional engineering standards and with considerable independence.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administers and coordinates the technical work of Distribution Plant Construction and Maintenance.
  • Coordinates the preparation of drawings, construction documents, and cost estimates a required for each project.
  • Ensures that each project has been verified and coordinated with the work of other sections.
  • Ensures that all required approvals, codes, regulations, and contract requirements have been received, properly complied with and recorded.
  • Approves shop drawings; reviews and approves samples; approves and issues supplementary drawings, details and addenda as required.
  • Provides training, advice, and assistance to engineers, drafters, and others as required and/or requested.
  • Responsible for safety and construction training of all Electric Division Employees.
  • Responsible for distribution rights-of-way clearing and trimming.
  • Subject to stand-by and 24-hour call.  Employee must reside in immediate Orangeburg, SC area due to emergency call-out and stand-by duty requirements

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university with a minimum of four (4) years’ experience in the design of electrical, mechanical, or communication systems.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of South Carolina preferred.  Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver’s License.

 

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering as to electric systems.
  • Ability to make independent decisions in the design and layout of projects.
  • Ability to develop solutions to problems encountered during the design of projects.
  • Ability to exchange ideas and give instructions in a clear legible and/or audible manner.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The employee will stand, walk, sit, and exert a medium amount of body weight/force to lift, carry, push, and/or pull objects and materials.  Hand-arm and foot-leg controls are necessary.  Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling abilities needed.  There will be frequent reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking and hearing.  The following vision abilities are frequently required: near acuity, far acuity, depth perception, sharp focusing, color distinction, and peripheral sight.
  • Position is subject to unfavorable weather conditions with occasional exposure to vibration, moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, high/exposed places and toxic/caustic chemicals, and EF/EMF and radiation associated with computer terminals and infrared (fiber optics).
